Discover Black Cat Studio

Our Passion

At Black Cat Studio, we offer a fun and unique approach to teaching sewing to children, teens, and adults. Starting as early as eight years old, students can learn to sew using the Kids Can Sew™ curriculum, which includes projects like clothes, purses, pillows, and creative novelty items. The patterns are specifically designed for kids, making the learning process intuitive and enjoyable.

Once students complete the first book in the Kids Can Sew™ curriculum, they have the freedom to choose sewing projects that truly interest them. This is where the instruction becomes highly personalized. Students are introduced to a wide variety of project ideas that match their growing skill set, and they have the opportunity to select and customize patterns to suit their individual preferences.

For adults, we offer group classes for up to 4 people, allowing for a more personalized learning experience while also fostering social interaction and support among participants. We are also excited to announce an upcoming class focused on earning the Girl Scout sewing badge, designed to engage young girls in this creative and practical skill.

To cater to different needs and preferences, we also offer zoom classes for groups. This makes our classes accessible to people from different locations or those who may not be able to attend in-person classes.

With small class sizes, each student, whether a child, teen, or adult, receives plenty of one-on-one attention, ensuring they get the most out of their sewing experience. Our personalized instruction, attention to individual needs, and variety of class options make Black Cat Studio the perfect place to learn and explore the creative world of sewing.

Lindsey Sudar

Hi! My name is Lindsey. Teaching sewing to kids and teens is truly a joy to me, and I am delighted to be able to share my passion.

I am a lifelong sewer and, as a child, learned to sew with this same sewing curriculum. I attended the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) in Los Angeles and have worked in the garment industry for over 15 years, designing and selling to all the major retailers, including Wal-Mart, Target, JC Penny, Macy’s, Five Below, Ross, Bloomingdale’s, Forever 21, and many more. I have strong knowledge in sewing construction, patterns, and design. This comes in handy when teaching, as students are able to adjust projects to their specific likes and wants. Additionally, I have been designing fabric for many years, run an online fabric store, and offer fabric in-studio for students, with the ability to customize designs for their projects.

After seeing my nieces and nephews during the pandemic, I realized I wanted to create something where kids could have a fun activity and learn life skills, as well as use their creativity. As I explored this idea further, I found that sewing is also a perfect fit for the homeschooling community, offering a meaningful and engaging way for kids to develop skills while expressing themselves.
